Care With Ease

Care With Ease

Our BetterBags are easy to clean, either machine wash in cold water, or a light scrubby-dubby by hand with just drop of your favourite detergent. These little baggies are so thin and light weight, just hang them to dry and they’ll be ready to use again in a flash. We recommend you hang them to dry and when we get our bags stained with strawberry/blueberry juice we simply soak them in a water, white vinegar, baking soda mixture…presto, stain gone 😉
Frequency of wash depends on how often you use your bags and whether or not food debris has been left in the bags or if the bags have been stained by your food items. Some people may prefer to wash their bags after every shop, others weekly or bi-weekly. As a general rule, we recommend you check your bags after every use to ensure cleanliness and wash them as you see fit.

Durability

Durability

We’ve been using our own BetterBags regularly for over 4 years and have yet to experience a tear in the mesh. We believe these bags to be a long lasting investment for many years of eco-friendly reusable shopping enjoyment!

Storage

Storage

Food storage is not why we created the BetterBag but in our home, we do toss our brussel sprouts and beans in the fridge, bag and all. Truth be told with a family of 5, our food rarely hangs around more than a few days AND we get a ton of feedback saying our bags keep produce nice and fresh!

Extra Weight

Extra Weight

Weighing in at 0.015 grams, our BetterBags add no weight to your purchase and therefore do not require you to tare prior to weighing your items, unlike cotton produce bags, which are heavier and will add weight to your purchases especially if your produce is wet as these cotton bags hold onto and absorb moisture, where our micro-mesh bags do not.

All Strings Attached

All Strings Attached

We always recommend you do a quick check of the knot prior to washing to ensure it’s tight. However, if your drawstring does come out of the bag, just use a safety pin or hair bobby pin to re-thread the string through the designated seam, and tie a knot to secure it once again. Please refer to our video tutorial on Instagram on how to re-thread your drawstring.

Remind Me Please

Remind Me Please

We’ve asked some of our favourite fans and followers how they remember their bags and here are several great tips for creating good habits to remembering your BetterBags:

1) When writing your grocery list, write at the very top of the page REMINDER: Bring BetterBags!!
2) Commit to refusing to use plastic grocery store produce bags, therefore, if you forget your BetterBags, then you can’t purchase the item that requires a bag! Tough love!! Mother nature thanks you!
3) After shopping, immediately return all of your reusable grocery and produce bags back into the car!
4) If you walk into the grocery store and have forgotten your bags in the car, turn around and go back for them…way to get your extra steps in!
5) Leave a note for yourself on the dash board of your car, or by the door to remember your BetterBags!
6) Set a reminder on your smart phone to remember your BetterBags!

Sizes

Sizes

With a super stretch fabric, we believe it eliminates the need for different sizes. Unless of course you NEED to have your entire mammoth sized kale inside the bag…then we do have a limited Large BetterBag option. We kinda like the kale hanging out of the bag like a bunch of flowers but we do occasionaly make the larger size for the people who really like having their whole kale/celery/green onions in the bag. These are usually seasonal for the Holiday and Summer – while supplies last.

Blended Fabric

Blended Fabric

Our fabric is a blend of Nylon, Polyester and Spandex. We tested a lot of materials before deciding on this blend and for a long time struggled with having a product that wasn’t biodegradable. In the end we picked this blend for re-usability factor, durability and multi-functionality! The original bags we made for our own family are almost 4 years old and showing no signs of needed to be replaced. That’s 4 years of multiple shops (and washes) a week, saving mother nature form hundreds of plastic bags…we’re happy with our choice and think you will be too!

Multi-Use

Multi-Use

1.      The Market/Grocery Store: I use my bags primarily at the market/grocery store to eliminate the need for single use plastic produce bags. You know when you go to the store for green beans at 3pm and cook them at 6pm for dinner? Yeah that plastic bag, had a 3-hour life span.

2.      Bulk Food Store/ Refillary: We shop plastic free whenever possible so that means getting our rice, nuts, pasta and soap at the local bulk store or refillary. Before we shop we bring our bags to the counter so they can be weighed and inspected for cleanliness. Once we’ve filled our bags we bring them back to be re-weighed with the food inside. The weight of the bag is first subtracted so you only pay for what’s inside. (0.015grams). Once I get the bags home I transfer my rice into a sealed re-useable jar.

3.      Nut milks: We use our bags to make nut milks vs a specific nut bag. Once you’ve strained, soaked and blended your nuts just pour the contents through your BetterBag and squeeze all the liquid through. YUM

4.      Vacation: They are amazing when you need to bring something like a swim suit or sunscreen to the beach and helpful when packing too!

5.      Everyday: I always keep a better bag in the car just in case I make an unexpected stop and need a small bag.
